Five-Spice Chicken Burgers
4 servings
- 2 Tablespoons light soy sauce
- 1 Tablespoon catsup
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1/4 cup nonfat (or lowfat) mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup canned garbanzo beans,
drained, rinsed, and mashed
- 2 beaten egg whites
- 3 Tablespoons seasoned dry bread crumbs
- 2 Tablespoons thinly sliced green onions
- 1 clove minced garlic
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 4 burger buns, split and toasted
- 4 lettuce leaves
Combine soy sauce, catsup, lemon juice, and five-spice powder in a medium mixing bowl. Take out 1 TBS of mixture and combine in a small container with the mayonnaise.
Combine remaining soy sauce mixture with mashed chick peas, green onion, egg whites, bread crumbs, garlic, and salt. Add ground raw chicken. Mix well. Shape into four 3/4-inch patties.
Preheat broiler. Place patties on a broiler pan and heat 7 minutes on each side or until patties are no longer pink in centers. OR Spray a non-stick skillet and cook the burgers for 6 minutes on each side.
Serve patties on buns with lettuce leaves. Top with seasoned mayonnaise
